    Sailing Instructions Ammendments

    Minor changes have been made to the sailing instructions and you are all reminded that you are expected to be knowledgable of both them and the racing rules.

    It has been requested that all classes make sure their trolleys do not block the various access points to the beach and are kept behind the path.

    Can participants in the Training Course and the Intemediate race please ensure that all club boats are put away before the afternoon race.

“Get into Small Boat Sailing” Course Details

Concord & Ryde Sailing Club is a Yachting Australia accredited training school for the ‘Get into Small Boat Sailing’ Training Scheme . This Scheme comprises 5 progressive modules: 

  • Basic Skills 1
  • Basic Skills 2
  • Better Sailing
  • Racing Skills 1
  • Racing Skills 2

Each module contains up to 10 specific “Lesson elements” and is suitable for both children and adults.

Courses Available
A number of different programs and courses are available to suit both children and adults:

Optimist Program: (Course Code: OPTI) Is designed to progress the younger sailor (from 9 to 13 years old) from beginner to advanced racer. The course is conducted on each Saturday throughout the sailing season (4th Sept – 30th April). A new module of the course starts every 5 weeks commencing with Basic Skills 1 and progressing through to Racing skills 2.

School Holiday Camps: (Course Code: Hols) Designed to progress young sailors (from 9 to 15 years old) through modules Basic Skills 1 & 2 over four consecutive days in the School holidays. Lunch and refreshments  included.

Family Learn to Sail Courses (Course Code: LTS) Suitable for both adults and children aged 10 and over and ideal for members of families who may wish to learn together. Run over five consecutive Saturday mornings and five Tuesday evenings. The course covers modules Basic Skills 1 & 2 and some elements of Better Sailing and Racing Skills 1 from the Training Scheme.

  • For each course, participants will receive a log book, a sailing instruction book, course notes and on completion a certificate.

After successfully completing any of the above courses, applicants will be able to sail a small dinghy unaided. They may participate in the Intermediate Sailing program each Saturday at CRSC.

Fees
The fees for the training courses are shown on the attached Payment Form. All course participants are required to become a member of Concord & Ryde Sailing Club

Log Books and Course Certificates
Participants will receive a log book to record all their sailing course achievements. Certificates will be issued for each course successfully completed. Participants will receive a Sailing Instruction” book.

What do you need to wear and bring along to courses?
The Club supplies training boats and life jackets (PFDs).  Trainees need to protect themselves with sun cream and wear hats, top, shorts and old sandshoes/sneakers. For safety reasons, footwear is compulsory around the Club, rigging area and while sailing.  Bring a towel and change of clothes to the practical sessions. On Saturdays, the canteen will be open for purchasing hot and cold drinks, salad rolls, pies, sausage rolls and other refreshments from 11.45am.

We welcome parent participation
Parents and guardians not participating in the training courses are welcome to stay at the club while these courses are being run. Their assistance in taking boats to and from the clubhouse to the launching place will be appreciated
